Luxury Oceanfront Condo by Interior Designer Kevin Gray
Kevin Gray Design was fortunate to start from scratch on this oceanfront luxury condominium at Ft Lauderdale, Florida’s new Paramount Residences, allowing us to fully develop a cohesive design throughout this two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment.
At the entrance, the solid double doors were replaced with a custom-designed single, oversized glass and steel door for a WOW factor, also allowing light to pierce through to the private elevator landing.
The furnishings are an interesting mix of Italian high-end brands such as Minotti, Flos, Maxalto as well as Holly Hunt and Donghia, adding custom beds and vintage finds from Paris to Berlin. Kevin found the iconic Italian Fontana “Otero” lamp in Paris and the Marché aux Puces and Mezza Luna Italian floor lamps in Berlin’s Kurfurstendamm antique area.
The sectional seating is paired with a vintage chrome and glass Ron Seff “propeller” coffee table. Large format Italian sandstone porcelain tiles were installed throughout, with the addition of silk and wool rugs to warm up the living room and bedrooms.
The dining room free floats off a Venetian mirror which is anchored under a 1970’s brass chandelier with oval frosted glass globes, surface-mounted flush to the ceiling.
The master bedroom has a KGD custom horizontal headboard with nightstands. A dark wood desk and leather chair were added to offer a quiet work area within the bedroom.
The color pallet is in soft tones of grey, white, beige with splashes of colors in the accessories, from dark woods to lacquers and a bold aubergine color.
The double linen closet in the master bathroom was removed to create a custom niche in black lacquer with floating glass shelves and a marble top to accompany the black granite wall in the master shower. Both the master and guest bathrooms feature light grey Italian marble floor tiles.
The guest room also features a KGD custom horizontal quilted headboard with two twin beds joined together. Its plushness contrasts well with the high-gloss lacquer and stone top nightstands and dresser.
Walls were papered in Phillip Jeffries Wallpapers to soften the surfaces of stone floors, making the rooms more intimate.
The apartment faces the ocean, opening up with 11-foot high floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors to a large terrace.
The kitchen’s Italian white lacquer and wood veneer cabinetry contrast with the marble backsplash that is highlighted by horizontal top and bottom lighting.
